Beak>: Iron Acton

beak-bandFormed in January 2009, this trio is the among other ways to describe it, the new project of Portishead’s intrumentalist and producer Geoff Barrow. The story is coming up on The Drone next month!

The rest is taken from the band’s myspace:

“The band have very strict guidelines governing the recording and writing process of their work. The music was recorded live in one room with no overdubs or repair, only using edits to create arrangements… Sometimes a band can be no more than the sum of it’s parts, but BEAK> are an equation in which it’s impossible to define equivalents or totals. Instead the meeting of three talent’s form a foundation from which idea’s assimilate and propagate.”

Cold Cave: Is Techno Really Back In America?

Kevin saunderson, Derrick may and Juan atkins youngTo make a long story short:

Black music has always crossed the Atlantic to really exist. Take blues for instance. From the cotton fields to Led Zeppelin and back to America, it took the Yardbirds (ex- Led Zeppelin) a trip to the U.S. to let the Americans know about their own legacy. The result in return: Garage rock. Lire la suite

Get Back Guinozzi! : Low Files Tropical

getback1This song is like popular french flicks from the 70′s: fun, groovy and with lots of boobs. Long distance musicianship between London based singer Eglantine Gouzy and Southern French composer Fred Lansini gave birth to Get Back Guinozzi! in 2007. Their album Carpet Madness is out on FatCat Records. Lire la suite

Impaler: Cryptozoology (Creatures Of God?)

promotion photo from 1986This is kind of my saying: in any metal band, you’ll find great hearts and a gold mining for journalists.
Today’s example is based on the new release of Impaler. A 26 years run of shock rock/metal from Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Loch Ness Monster, Chupacabra, Bigfoot, Jersey Devil, Kraken, the Black Dogs of Britain and Mothman: those monsters from the four corners of the earth are being paid a tribute in their last record, “Cryptozoology”, coming up december, 1st. Lire la suite

Glo-Fi: vamos a la playa

Peter Frampton on his YachtEither you call it Glo-Fi, Hypnagogic Pop or Chill-Wave, there was something going on with music last summer. Dreamy synth melodies that sound like half-remembered soft-rock tunes from the 80′s, recordings on dirty unraveled tapes, memories of memories, summer nights at the beach, surfing… This had to happen at some point but here we are: Yacht Rock is cool again.
