Sir Victor Uwaifo was born in Benin City, Nigeria in 1941. At a very young age, this genius guitarist had a strange encounter with a “Mami Wata” (mermaid) who told him: “Guitar Boy! Eeh, if you see Mami Wata, never you run away.”
“Guitar Boy and Mamiwater” became a huge hit in 1966. Then “Joromi” won him the first gold record in Africa.
