Wholetrain: the first graffiti fiction film?

Sprayers, this is for you.

german movie Wholetrain artworkFilmed in 2006, german director Florian Gaag’s film “Wholetrain” (graffiti Slang for a completly painted train) just found a distributor in France, two years after its german release and is now to be premiered in January.

The story’s pretty basic and will strike anyone who ever hold a spraycan: a german graffiti posse hangs out at night in the city painting trains till they meet another crew. Then begins the ultimate graffiti fight: who does the most and who does the best.

Almost 30 years after the birth of graffiti, this film awarded at the Hip Hop Odyssey Film Festival in New York seems to be the first serious attemp about this matter. Am I right?

response via email from the director himself: "wholetrain hasn´t been released in the U.S. yet. So far it was released in germany, austria, czech republic, slowakia, russia, poland and will be released in france january 13th. It´s not the only fiction film about graffiti, there are two us films that i haven´t seen yet. but it´s funny, we all started to work on films about that subject around the same time, they were a little faster to get their financing together..."

What about Wild Style? In my opinion it was the first graffiti fiction film.

Isn't Wild Style more of a documentary/fiction than a pure fiction film sort of speak?
le 17 novembre 2009 par Daveed :
Dont't you speak about Style Wars?
