Primavera: Day 1

On a eu l'idée de génie d'envoyer Eliza au meilleur festival d'Europe et maintenant on la déteste.

Hola Primavera

Yesterday was awesome and long and so so loud. We got to Parc del Forum around 5pm and left just before 5am. And now the guy who runs our hotel is playing Catalan techno cranked up to number 11. We’re having Paracetomol for breakfast.

After picking up the magic Pro wristband and jumping up and down with joy for about 10 minutes we spent the next 11hours checking out the following bands (in the right order): Sic Alps, Monotonix, Surfer Blood, The Fall, Titus Androndicus, The XX, Broken Social Scene, Pavement and last but not least, Fuck Buttons…

Highlights? Low points? For me Titus Andronicus were a real discovery, especially having missed them last week at the Fleche d’Or in Paris.

Such a good summer band to see live and just one billion times more lively than The Fall who seemed to fail to impress a lot of people.

So we all like to do a bit of Air Guitar now and again so we thought we´d give first prize to this guy who was rocking out solo style to Titus Anronicus. Excellent mullet.

Monotonix nearly broke my toes after doing their trade mark audience invasion which we witnessed at an uncomfortable proximity, but… it was worth every bruise: what a show!

Equally Pavement‘s great comeback stirred up some teenage lo-fi emotion and Broken Social Scene‘s 1h30min set was pure festival gold.

At nearly 3am Fuck Buttons were a little hard to handle after Stephen Malkmus and co but even if I’d nearly given up by then there were still a ton of hardcore festival goers who danced until the end.

So today: Beach House, beak>, Cold Cave, Diplo, Japandroids, Les Savy Fav, Major Lazer, Panda Bear, the Pixies, Shellac, Thee Oh Sees, Wilco, Wire and Yeasayer. Yes, Primavera is the best festival in the world. Ever.

Even the tourists are wacko

After arriving 81euros lighter in Montpellier where we hung out with the locals (one old dude took us into his house to show us his family of ferrets who live behind the washing machine) we repacked our bags and tried to hitch a lift to BCN. And let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it might seem.
