Schwervon!

This is an anti-folk love story.

It's not like the White Stripes.

Schwervon!

schwervon press pictureIf Manhattan stage-couple Schwervon got labeled “anti-folk”, it’s probably over the name of the scene in which they met for the first time in 1999! This whole movement started off back in 84 when Brooklyner musician Lach started his own after-hours club “The Fort” on the Lower East Side. After shuting down in 93, the club winded up in a the back room of a new place called Sidewalk Café in Manhattan, which soon became the Mecca for a whole generation of weirdoe-lo-fi songwriters. Think Kimya Dawson and the Moldy Peaches, Adam Green, Jeffrey Lewis, Toby Goodshank, who all have in commun a 100% DIY approach to the music.

Based in Manhattan, lovers Matt Mason (39) and Nan Turner (36) have been running their own little act for 10 years now, booking their own tours, puting out records via their own label Olive Juice, recording in their Lower East Side appartement… 100% DIY.
