Emeutes à Toronto sur fond de Lolcats et Tom Cruise.

]]> Un mix épileptique d’images de manifs fraggles altermondialistes, de memes internet, Tom Cruise et Justin Bieber: voilà comment les Canadiens de Broken Social Scene envisagent l’apocalypse par la crétinerie, dans ce bon clip tiré de leur quatrième album, Forgiveness Rock Record.

Il a été réalisé et envoyé au groupe par un fan anonyme, en réaction au sommet du G20 à Toronto, en juin dernier.

Juste histoire de signaler au passage que cette année BSS est shortlisté pour le prix Polaris (les Victoires de la Musique canadiennes, sans Nagui et avec des bons groupes) aux cotés de The Besnard Lakes, Caribou, Karkwa, Dan Mangan, Tegan and Sara, Radio Radio, The Sadies, Shad et Owen Pallett.

Perso je prend le risque et parie une couille sur une victoire écrasante de Caribou. Verdict en septembre.

New Orleans director John Maringouin found a Slovenian marathon swimmer, Martin Strel, who made headlines back in 2007 breaking a swim record in the Amazon, and made a really Herzog-alike movie out of him. A movie where the truth doesn’t matter much, and where a person having some serious spychological breakdown becomes the best entertainer. Outrageously cynical.

And Toronto-based hardcore act Fucked Up enlisted Vampire Weekend, RZA and TV On the Radio to re-record the classic charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”.

]]> new world order posterI’m not afraid to say it, I’m a conspirationist. I don’t believe that Bruce Lee is dead nor that Jamie Lee Curtis is actually a woman and to me, Sonic Youth’s appearance on Gossip Girl was fake (they can do crazy shit with computers nowadays).

New World Order is a documentary by Luke Meyr and Andrew Neel about people into conspiracy theorys such as “9/11 as an inside job”, “The Bilderberg group is a secret group meant to rule the world” and more recently “Climate change is a hoax”.

The film mainly focuses on the most charismatic figure of the movement, Alex Jones, a Texas-based radio host and documentary filmmaker that is generally considered either a hero or a total wacko, depending on which side you belong to. However, the point of the film is to not take any sides and only depict the life of these people, from a non-judgemental perspective.

Comparing businesses as “donkeys”, Brent Schulkin, a 27-year-old Stanford grad in San Francisco, created a new sort of “mob”, the Carrotmob to make businesses step forward to a more responsible state of mind. The deal is simple: the business makes a commitment, and he gets more consumers.

How does it work?

As it says on his website carrotmob.org, “It’s easier to understand if you look at an example. A liquor store agreed to invest in upgrades that made their store more energy-efficient. In exchange, hundreds of Carrotmobbers showed up at once to support the winning liquor store.”
