On vous en parle parceque sur son troisième album Attack On Memory il n’hésite pas à mettre les doigts dans la prise et à s’égosiller avec assez d’aplomb pour ne pas être totalement useless, quoique on pourrait légitimement tout aussi bien réécouter Ben Kweller. Un précédent single No Future, No Past est aussi en écoute pour vous faire patienter jusqu’à l’album, dont la sortie est prévue fin janvier sur Carpark.

Release one of the best albums of the year, go to tour in Europe, come back, go back to Europe, breakdown on stage at Primavera Festival in Spain, fight with his drummer, kick his drummer out of the band, cancel the european tour, take a lot of shit from the blogosphere, apologize, hire Zack Hill from Hella as a new drummer, get into a fight with a guy from Black Lips, lose his new drummer Zack Hill after  he broke his wrist, hire freshly unemployed Jay Reatard’s old band, go back to Europe, play in Paris in front of a crowd expecting another “meltdown”, do an interview with us after the show.

I can’t believe he’s got a song called “So Bored”.

Well, the band is about to face an audience again with their original lineup December the 20th at the Black Cat in DC. “Original” they said, which means, no Grohl, who’d joined the band in 86.

The story’s pretty basic and will strike anyone who ever hold a spraycan: a german graffiti posse hangs out at night in the city painting trains till they meet another crew. Then begins the ultimate graffiti fight: who does the most and who does the best.

Almost 30 years after the birth of graffiti, this film awarded at the Hip Hop Odyssey Film Festival in New York seems to be the first serious attemp about this matter. Am I right?

In ’86, the British magazine NME released a cassette tape titled the “C86″ which has been remembered as the starting point of this new genre, and featured bands such as The Pastels and The Wedding Present. But like many other nerdy-shoe gazer revivalists, “Pains of Being Pure at Heart” don’t seem to be descendants of that same family tree.

Instead, this New York band formed in 2007 instinctively mention Nirvana and Bikini Kill as their ultimate references, rather than citing the British connection. Same thing for other NY combos like Vivian Girls and Crystal Stilts… Come on guys, anyone in the Big Apple down with producing a C09?

Higher Than the Stars EP (Slumberland + Fortuna Pop)

From the sandbox of their childhood to the upcoming 50 gigs waiting for them across the old continent and the US, these two musicians attended the Elliott School where a bunch of bands such as Burial and Hot Chip also met. Even though bassist Oliver doesn’t think much of the school’s creative credentials, this is where the XX seed was planted where they were all but 16 years old. A dark mixture of The Smith, Siouxsie Sioux aesthetic, Fever Ray and the Cocteau Twins is well thought through and reassembled in their eponymous record released by Young Turks (Wavves, El Gincho, Kid Harpoon). And so here they are today, singing romantic teen love songs at sold out venues and soon turning 20, which should give the XX’s name a whole new meaning.
